Elaine and Nathan went to register him for Kindergarten a couple weeks ago. He is very excited about it. He met the principal, the school secretary, and the guidance counselor. He has been thinking a lot about school and getting ready for it. He will say that he needs to do this or that so he knows how to do whatever it is by himself once he starts school.
I think he has been especially thinking about the bathroom. Once he asked Elaine and I if someone would show him where the bathroom is before school started. He said that if no one showed him he would have to explore the school looking for it and then when he finally got done he knew his class would be over. He's also been making sure that ... he can take care of his, uh ... hygiene needs in the bathroom by himself. It's just so cool for Elaine and I to get to watch him prepare himself for school.
Elaine is also going to do some neat things with him to help him get used to his school and going to school. During the summer the school has library days once a week, so they are going to do that. There is also an official orientation later in August. Another cool idea is Elaine and Nathan are going to have practice mornings once a week in August to just figure out what routine will work best. He wants to ride the bus to school (which is only about 0.9 miles away) so they'll figure out where the bus stop is, too.
It's all just really cool and we are enjoying this time with him. Hopefully it goes well.
