Something to Think About
Just for today, tell your kids: I'll forget about the laundry and take you to the park. I will silence the cell phone, turn off the computer and sit with you and blow bubbles. Just for today, I will let you wear whatever you want and smile and say how perfect it is. I will skip my favorite TV shows and snuggle beside you for hours. I will let you stay up late so we can sit and count the stars.
Just for today, I will think about the mothers and fathers who no longer have their children, and I will be thankful I have you... just for today.

Busy Start to Summer
We have had a very busy start to our summer. At the end of May we took an 11-day, 2000-mile trip to Tennessee and Indiana to visit family and introduce Olivia to everyone. I think of it this way: Snacks - $86; Drive-thru food - $172; Gas - $368; sharing the mini-van with our 3 small children for 11 days and 2,000 miles - priceless? Yes, it was priceless. The trip went really well.
In June we went to the pool with some friends and Nathan jumped off of the diving board for the first time. He was so cute. In order to get the go-ahead from the lifeguard, he had to swim the width of the pool. He did it on the 2nd try. He waited in line for his turn on the diving board. He slowly crawled up onto the board and walked very slowly to the end. He was sucking his thumb and looking off the end down to the water. The other kids behind him in line were very patient. Finally he mustered the courage (I could see him counting to himself, "1 ... 2 ... 3!") and jumped off. He swam as quickly as he could to the side where I was waiting for him. He went about 10 more times and got a little braver with each attempt.
June also brought Granny and Pop-Pop to Richmond to take the kids to the RV park for a few days. They did an RV trip with the kids last year and it looks to be an annual event now. Nathan and Mary-Kensley really love spending the time with Granny and Pop-Pop. They did a bunch of fun things like swimming, roasting marshmallows over the campfire and making smores, and short bits of hiking. I'm not sure who was worn out more at the end of the 3 1/2 days: the kids or Mom and Paul?
And, finally, we sold our house and moved into a new one. We actually got the offer on our house while we were on our TN/IN trip. We had already written a contract on a new house so we were so thankful to get our's sold. We moved last weekend and have had a good first week in the new home. We still have a ton of boxes to unpack though!
Next up: July 4th!

This Trip Will Be Great in 2008
We're planning a trip to see family in Knoxville, Nashville, and Greencastle in May. Here's a look at what we have in store for us. Google Maps says it is about 1,600 miles. Should be very fun with three little kids in the car! Actually, we're looking forward to it. My dad and Lois have only seen Nathan when he was a baby and have only visited our house once (when Nate was born). They missed out on getting to hold Mary-Kensley when she was tiny, but they'll get to meet Olivia for the first time ... I guess she'll be 4 months old by then.

... I came home for lunch and these two had fallen asleep in our bed ...
... and I couldn't leave this little one out. I think she is thinking, "Gee, being a baby is boring. All I do is eat, sleep, poop, and cry. When do I get to do fun stuff like my brother and sister?"

On Our Own
We took my mom (a/k/a Granny) to the airport this morning. She's been with us all week and been a big help. Now, we're on our own. Olivia will be three weeks old on Tuesday!

Is today the day?
Today, January 20, 2008, is the official due date for the newest Peterson. Elaine has been having a lot of contractions this afternoon. Some have been pretty strong. We're just waiting to see if they are the real things or not. Will we have big news later tonight? Wait and see.
This is the little one at around 28 weeks in 4-D.

Flat Tire
I left the office early today because it's Nate's 5th birthday. Right as I was leaving Elaine called to say she had a flat tire downtown as she was going to pick her mom up from work. I told my beautiful, 9-months pregnant wife to stay put, and I would be there momentarily to change the tire. She asked me to bring her aunt Linda who had AAA so that we could just call AAA to come change it. What? I can't change a flat tire?
So I brought Linda and both kids downtown and found the minivan. Elaine and her mom left in my car with the kids. As soon as they left Linda said, "You're going to change that tire, aren't you?" "You bet," I said. We'd already called AAA so I only had a short amount of time. I was halfway done when the AAA person showed up -- a young woman! She quickly told me that my jack was too small and pulled out her super-jack and air-powered, lug nut wrench thing and changed the tire in about 2 minutes. Linda sat in the van and could not stop laughing.
I'd wanted to be the superhero for my family when I went home; instead I went home and said a woman had come along and changed the tire for me! I was so glad that Elaine took Nathan home with her so that my son did not have to witness what happened to his dad at such a young age. This incident added to the vasectomy I had in December has really taken a toll on my manhood. I think I need to watch a lot of football to boost my testosterone levels.
